
Buche De Noel Yule Log Cake Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
Cake
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 10x15-inch jelly roll pan and line with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the egg mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Stir in the water, melted butter, vanilla, and almond extract.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
- Using the parchment paper, carefully roll up the cake into a log, starting at the short end.
- Set aside until ready to assemble.
Frosting
- In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and almond extract.
Assembly
- Unroll the cake log and spread the frosting evenly over the cake.
- Reroll the cake and place onto a serving platter.
- Using a serrated knife, trim off the ends of the cake log to make it look like a real Yule log.
- Decorate with chocolate shavings, powdered sugar, and/or holly leaves.
- Serve and enjoy!
Tips
- This cake can be made a day ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- This cake can be served with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream.
